Band Booster Meeting Minutes

Berryhill Marching Band Blue and Gold Brigade

As many of you already are aware, the music curriculum for 6th grade is Band.  Your child will still be able to be involved in Elementary Choir and the musical, but the class offered during the school day will be band.  This year, students will have the option of playing the flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone and percussion.

Success in band is directly related to the quality of instrument.  There are many, many brands of instruments to choose from, some of very poor quality.  We have found the following brands to be the best in beginning instruments.  Please try to obtain one of these brands.  The instrument does not have to be new, but it must be in good condition.  We will be happy to evaluate an instrument for you.

Flute – Accent, Gemeinhardt, Armstrong

Clarinet – Accent, Buffet, Artley, Yamaha; a 5-RV lyre or B45 mouthpiece, a Rovner ligature and a box of Vandoren 2-1/2  reeds)

(if you plan on renting a clarinet, please go to Saied Music or Tulsa Band)

Trumpet – Accent, Bach, Besson, Yamaha, Getzen, Schilke; a 7C mouthpiece

Trombone – Accent, Bach, Besson, Yamaha, UMI; a 6-1/2 AL mouthpiece

Percussion – a drum kit (bells, practice pad, stand, drumsticks and bell mallets)

Text Box: We also ask that you purchase “Essential Elements for Band”, 1991 edition (purple) for the chosen instrument.

There are a number of music stores in Tulsa that will be able to assist you in purchasing instruments and books.  We recommend the following:

Saied Music Company – 742-5541 (33rd and Yale)

The Music Store, Inc. – 664-7333 (31st St. between Memorial and Mingo)

            Tulsa Band – 664-9772 (5433 S. Mingo)

Instruments must be rented for the entire school year (through May 23, 2007).

Text Box: The band program at Berryhill is one of the best programs in the state of Oklahoma.  In the past 17 years they have earned 13 marching band state championships, 11 jazz band state championships and have been a sweepstakes band (the highest award a band program can receive) for the past four years.  We are looking forward to having your child be a part of this great tradition.
If you have further questions, please call.  Mr. Morrison and Mr. Mackey can be reached at the High School (445-6012).  Mrs. Hilborn can be reached at the South Elementary
