Marching Band Agreement Form

The following are some band performance etiquette rules to remember:

Ø      Do not enter or leave the seating area during performances.  It is an important show of respect to the performers.

Ø      Support every band with your attention and applause.  Appropriate applause points include the end of solos, effective drill or guard movements and powerful musical moments.

Ø      Limit your conversation during performances and be very careful about your comments when in the stands.  Remember “little Johnny or Suzy’s” family could be near and have very good hearing.

Ø      When bands are moving in formation outside the performance area they have the right-of-way.  Show respect by not “breaking the ranks” of a band or by interrupting their concentration with rude comments.

Ø      At home football games, show respect by giving your full attention to a visiting band during their performance. Encourage those around you to do the same.

Ø      Make our “home-side” stands a friendly place for the family and friends of visiting bands.  Many of us like to visit home stands during Brigade performances at away games.  It is not fun to try to enjoy our band when feeling animosity all around.

Other guidelines for parents to keep in mind at contests and football games:

Ø      Parents are encouraged to visit their students at the Brigade Camp before and while the band is putting on their uniforms.  However, once the students move to the warm-up area, parents must please go to the stands.  If possible, sit as a group to maximize the visual effect of our support for our band.  NOTE:  Designated parents will accompany the band with water to the warm-up area.

Ø      The Directors need the complete attention of the band until after pictures are complete and the band has been dismissed to change out of their uniforms.  Please respect the rights of the professional photographers by not taking your photos while they are trying to conduct their business.  Parents are welcome to watch the picture taking process and snap a few themselves, however, please wait until the band is dismissed to stage your own photos.

Ø      Students need to get permission from the Directors if they are going to ride home with parents.  NO  EXCEPTION.

Ø      Contest days can be very stressful for Directors and students.  They all need to concentrate on the task at hand.  Please be supportive but hold suggestions for improvement for another day.

Ø      Be flexible concerning the program schedules.  We will do our best to communicate any changes as they happen.

Thank you
